Le Jardin Bleu
Chandran Gallery in San Francisco is pleased to present Le Jardin Bleu, a solo show of new paintings, drawings and sculptures by internationally renowned, London-based, French-born artist, Jean Jullien. With one of the most eclectic and signature styles of any artist working today, Jullien combines illustration, cartoons, painting, photography, design, fashion, photography and sculpture into various projects around the world.
In Le Jardin Bleu, Jullien presents 25 new paintings on themes close to the artist: the ocean, summer and people, painted or inspired by summers in Brittany region in France, with a sketchbook in hand. The artist notes that the new works have taken a different tone than his drawings. “I am focusing on minimal storytelling,” Jullien says. “Hopefully the works give a sense of calm I feel when I’m painting. I’m happiest in summer. Days are slow, with walks to the beach, long lunches in the garden, drawing in the sun, good wine...”
Le Jardin Bleu will also feature new life-sized sculpture works to accompany the 25 new paintings, as well as an immersive installation on the bottom floor of the gallery.
Chandran Gallery was established in 2013 and presents a contemporary program, exhibiting established, mid-career and emerging artists to a worldwide audience. The gallery supports artists in transcending boundaries of discipline and presentation. In September 2015, Chandran Gallery opened its doors at its permanent location in Union Square, featuring a newly built 4,500 square foot, 2-level exhibition space.
